Wills & Probate
22 June 2015

We are delighted to announce that we are now licensed to help you draft your Will and undertake non-contentious probate work.

Until now, whilst we have always been able to help with the administration of estates, to finalise tax liabilities and even to act as executors, there has always come a point where it has been necessary to refer work to a solicitor for those parts of the probate process which, legally, only they were allowed to do.

However, the Government’s drive to increase competition in the legal services sector has seen the introduction of legislation under which accountants can now provide the whole service.

Having undergone a rigorous assessment and application process and under the supervision of one of our partners John Gilleard, Head of Legal Practice, we have recently been licensed to carry out the reserved legal activity of non-contentious probate work by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales – to date the only practice in Hull to achieve this.

Already many clients use our expertise on inheritance tax planning to structure their estates in a tax-efficient manner but even where we have not yet done that, simply preparing your tax return each year means that we are already accumulating most of the financial information that will be necessary to administer your estate. We therefore believe that by being so licensed, we will be ideally placed to deliver a cost-effective service to enhance the amount your beneficiaries will receive.

Details of our probate accreditation can be viewed on the register of accredited firms at icaew.com/probate under reference number C005313788.
