Sponsorship deal set to help Hull businessman achieve £100k charity target

Dutton Moore Chartered Accountants and Business Advisers and Rixons Independent Financial Advisers are key business sponsors for Mike O’Neill as he does his final preparations for a charity Himalayan Trek in April.

Tony Bullock, Managing Partner at Dutton Moore and Ivan Logan of Rixons have both sponsored Mike in his team bid to raise £100k for Dove House Hospice next month.

Mike is part of a 19-strong team of local people who are setting off to Delhi on April 28th for a 5-day trek across the Himalayas at heights of more than 7,000 metres to raise money for Dove House Hospice. So far the team of intrepid explorers have raised more than £85k in sponsorship and they want to hit the £100k mark.

Mike, Managing Director of Yorkshire Maintenance Company, who have also sponsored the trek, has set himself the Himalayan challenge in the year he turns 50. “I try to do something a bit different every few years for charity. Dove House is such a worthwhile charity to back. We have all been touched by cancer; I lost both my parents to the devastating disease, so it’s important to support them with their work.”

With just 7-weeks to go Mike is training hard for the 5-day trek at great heights led by Sherpa’s and local tour guides through the Himalayan Mountains and sleeping in tents.

Tony Bullock, Managing Partner, said: “We are delighted to sponsor Mike in his mission to raise funds for charity – especially as this year he is raising money for our local hospice, Dove House.”

Ivan Logan, from Rixons, added: “This is a real challenge and we want to support Mike and the team as they raise money for Dove House.”

Becky Baynes, Fundraising Coordinator at the Hospice and co-ordinator of the Trek, said: “A big thank you to Dutton Moore and Rixons for sponsoring Mike – it is local businesses like these that really make a difference to our fantastic fundraising total.

“The team are all training hard and with 7-weeks to go everyone is really stepping it up! There is a really interesting mix of people in the team ranging in age from 23 to 65 and from a serviceman, business owners, to a retired teacher.”

Following the Trek the team will head to a cancer care centre 2-hours outside Delhi volunteering with painting, decorating, gardening and general maintenance.

The money will all go towards the annual running costs of the Hospice which stand at £6.1 million.
